The New Zealand stock market surged over 6 percent into positive territory today, taking its lead from the overnight bounce in global markets.
The benchmark NZX 50 index started the day 191.835 points up, or 6.89 percent at 2974.228 in early trading.
Top stock Telecom rose 20c to $2.68, with Fletcher Building rising 65c to $6.50 early in the session.
Contact Energy started the day at $7.46, up 41c.
Westpac was up 151c to $25.50.
Overnight, Wall Street rebounded from its worst week on record with its best single day ever on Monday, as countries around the world pledged to pour cash into their struggling banks to prop up the global financial system.
The Dow Jones industrial average soared 936.42 points,or 11.08 percent, at 9,387.61 while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index jumped 104.06 points, or 11.57 percent, to finish at 1,003.31.
The Nasdaq Composite Index surged 194.74 points, or 11.81 percent, to close at 1,844.25.
