We thought that we were world leaders in tolerance. We thought that it was not legal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. Did we not just open a Rainbow Room in the NZ Parliament??
So why was the head of the one of the world's great Champagne houses detained at Auckland Airport for two hours because he told an immigration officer that he was going to be staying at a gentleman's club in Wellington. Why is that suspicious? Why was he given the third degree and detained so long that he missed his connecting flight to Wellington?
As it happens we understand the club concerned is not a gay haunt but the most exclusive and distinguished club in New Zealand.
This is a disgrace and outrage and heads should roll. We expect that both Grant Robertson and Charles Chauvel will spring into action on this.
