The latest Roy Morgan poll serves usefully to remind National that it should not be complacent. It confirms Labour Party polling that is showing Labour around the 38% mark. Now this is all a few days old. It has been a bad week for Labour. We would guess the current state to be of the 48% to 34% order. But National should be looking hard at what closed the gap.
The poll highlights the importance to Helen Clark of getting NZ First back above the 5% mark (this was a very bad poll for Winston First). Labour and Green are ahead of national but way behind National, United Future, ACT and Maori. At the start of the year it was National that didn't have the allies. Now it is Labour. There needs to be some serious soul searching about priorities and tactics by Labour.
