I hope readers have been as impressed as we have been by the in depth coverage in the New Zealand media of the resignation of Japan's Prime Minister, the Prime Minister who stuck his neck out on the FTA idea with New Zealand. You will have appreciated about all the information in our media on what the resignation means for the FTA and what the likely replacement Taro Aso (careful how you say this), is likely to do to the idea. Then of course there is the small issue of North Asian security and stability (anyone familiar with Aso's views on Taiwan???).
Just in case you have missed all this this reporting in our media, this report from Forbes gives a bit of background on what is going on.
We would hope that one of Prime Minister Key's first overseas trips will be to Tokyo and Beijing.
