ACT leader Rodney Hide says an investigation into whether NZ First leader Winston Peters should have declared $100,000 that shipping billionaire Owen Glenn donated to his legal fees will be meaningless unless Mr Glenn appears.
Parliament's privileges committee decided yesterday to call Mr Peters and his lawyer, Brian Henry, to give evidence about the donation, but chairman Simon Power will not say whether Mr Glenn could also be asked to attend. As a resident of Monaco, Mr Glenn cannot be compelled to appear.
The committee is investigating whether Mr Peters should have declared in the register of MPs' pecuniary interests the $100,000 Mr Glenn paid toward Mr Peters' failed High Court bid to wrest back the Tauranga seat.
