Emissions Trading

The ETS remains in big trouble. Anyone listening to National Radio this morning would be forgiven for guessing that all was over and the PM was preparing her plan B - try and make National the scapegoat for failure and make this an election issue. The trouble is that climate change has dropped out of the top 10 big issues. And the smaller parties realise this. Maori are listening to fisheries, forestry and agriculture lobbying. The Greens are trying to remain staunch. And NZ First are rightly worried about being pressured from both ends - business at one and retired people at the other. In summary, Labour is in big trouble. It needs NZ First and the Greens to support this legislation, but both are trying to extract a high price. The trouble is that the Green price and NZ First price are not compatible.
