The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that "immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into Hell".
This must make the new list of mortal sins
(1 Environmental pollution
2 Genetic manipulation
3 Accumulating excessive wealth
4 Inflicting poverty
5 Drug trafficking and consumption
6 Morally debatable experiments
7 Violation of fundamental rights of human nature)
look somewhat alarming to the current Government. As far as we can tell they currently stand in breach of sins 1 (their record is awful) 3 (Cullen has been over taxing us for years and remember those surpluses) 4 (the result of Government biofuel policy) 6 (the three attempts to manipulate the Auckland Airport sales process were morally repugnant to Mom and Pop investors and were experiments that went wrong) and 7 (electoral finance act).
That is pretty good going and is probably more than enough to qualify for "state of mortal sin"status.
