Cunliffe

David Cunliffe is the focus of much attention in today's larger papers - two political opinions and at least one editorial are devoted to his actions.

The Herald's John Armstrong is reasonably sympathetic. He sees Cunliffe as emerging - if everything goes right - as a Labour Finance Minister and Deputy Leader of the future (Deputy to Goff - two straight pakeha men from Auckland leading the modern Labour Party???). The risk is that he might have caused rural New Zealand to vote against Labour in their Party vote.

The Herald Editorial is less sympathetic "it is the sound of a minister too self-important for our confidence."

We can't find a link to Colin Espiner's interview with Cunliffe in the Dominion Post. He sees this as being about Cunliffe's leadership ambitions. "Its early days, but perhaps Phil Goff isn't the only one in the Labour caucus with leadership ambitions."
