Word from the Beehive suggests that the last round of negotiations with China on the FTA have made great progress. We understand that the deal has basically been done. Inside MFAT there iss concern that Trade Minister Goff is sending out too many positive signals too soon.
There is also much speculation that the Chief Negotiator of the China deal David Walker has just jumped to the front of the list of candidates to replace Derek Leask as Deputy Secretary when he leaves for his year in London.
This is most likely great news for New Zealand business, but the devil will be in the detail............
