The Hive actually agrees that we should have an annual remembrance of Sir Ed. But we disagree that it should be a public holiday. Sir Ed was too modest a man to have wanted such a memorial. Rather we believe that on Hillary Day all New Zealanders should donate their day's earnings to the people of Nepal, and keep Sir Ed's assistance programme not only going, but stronger than ever before. Sue Bradford's Maoist friends in Nepal may not like this gesture, but we are sure that the rest of that troubled and needy nation would be enormously grateful.
We also like the idea of a mountain being named after Sir Ed.
