Now that Australia has joined New Zealand back in the Kyoto camp, The Hive would like to begin encouraging the New Zealand Government to put unlilateralism to one side, and try and work as closely as possible with the new Australian Government on climate change policy response.
In this context we read with great interest the predictions contained in yesterday's Trans Tasman on the latest thinking from the Rudd Government. What struck us most was the fact that business impact is central to Rudd's concerns and is the key factor at play in determining the design of the Australian scheme. We don't see this issue as being anything like as important in the New Zealand Government's mind.
The other comment that jumped out at us was from the CEO of the Andromeda Group Robert Clarke who warns that "90% of Australian companies are still under-prepared to manage the commercial risks associated with future cuts in greenhouse emissions". This is a frightening statistic. How many New Zealand companies are prepared we wonder?????
