Alan Williams

The heavy dark sky and drizzle over Wellington this morning is reflective of the gathering gloom in the public service over the news that MFAT Deputy Secretary Alan Williams died yesterday. Alan was one of the nicest and most capable people around. He would, without doubt, have been the MFAT CEO had he lived longer. He must also have been a potential candidate for the PMs Department job had he not made it to MFAT this time around. Alan was widely known around town thanks to the key role he played some years back as Foreign Policy Advisor to the PM. Alan's death after many months of battling cancer is a great loss to MFAT and the nation. The Hive's thoughts are with Alan's family at this difficult time.
