The NBR says on today's front page that high level talks are going on between Labour and National over a deal which would see the EMS proceed but with the Government dumping the proposed 10-year ban on new thermal generation.
The Hive is a little surprised by this news (if true). National will probably be able to achieve the outcome on the 10-year ban without doing any deals. And does National really want to be lumbered with such an imperfectly designed scheme? Would it not be better to play it long and take another year to get it right (by which time we will know more about Australian and EU policy - and about a new US administration)?
