We keep on wanting to write about Baygate but the Auckland Airport scandal is more worrying so we give this priority.
Has anyone else noticed the10 day time delay between the OIO advice being received by Ministers and the announcement of the decision to reject the investment bid? The OIO advice can be read here. Note in particular paras 27 and 28 - the Canadian investment would benefit New Zealand and that these benefits would be substantial and identifiable.
So why did the Ministers decide to wait until 11 April to make the announcement that they rejected the advice from the OIO and that the Canadian bid was rejected? Nothing to do with the Labour Party congress and the release of the next Morgan poll we are sure (the poll results are not surprises for Labour or National. Both do weekly (if not daily) polling. They know pretty much whether the news is going to be good or bad in the publicly released polls. Labour therefore knew that in spite of their best four weeks in a year that they have not moved much - if at all. This would not be good for morale. What could distract attention from 34%????)
