We think that Poneke (who we admire greatly even if we do disagree over light rail) is one of the bravest people around. Pretty much everyone knows who he is, yet that doesn't stop him taking on the journalistic establishment and fighting for improved standards. Today he takes the Dominion Post to task over Friday's Editorial (critical of TVNZ's funding the Iti whanau on their travels to Waitangi.) This is no defence of the Dom Post, but we wonder if Poneke was aware that Editor Tim Pankhurst was not at work Thursday or Friday last week, and that this Editorial was the work of others?
We were actually pretty happy with the role played by the Dominion Post over the treatment Louise Nicholas received at the hands of the police, but we did find it strange that Nicholas and partner were in attendance at the Dom's 100th birthday party last year (Queen Bee spent some time trying to figure out how she knew that woman on the other side of the room until the light bulb went off). Do they live in Wellington? Who paid for them to be there?
Like Poneke we are pleased that Tim Donoghue has returned to the more mainstream, having been working for the low circulation Independent Financial Review.
