A helicopter and a light plane have collided over Paraparaumu this morning. The two occupants of the helicopter appear to be dead but the pilot of the plane seems to have survived. The plane came down at Dennis Taylor Court while the helicopter fell into the Placemakers store compound.
This is a tragedy in its own right, but will really put the cat amongst the pigeons when it comes to approving plans for more intensive residential and industrial development around Paraparaumu airport. It might also have implications for the continuing use of the airport itself. The current Kapiti Council is pretty anti-development. This could be the excuse they need.
