Can McCain Beat Either Clinton Or Obama?

We have withheld our reasons for thinking that John McCain will triumph over either Clinton or Obama in the Presidential election later in the year, because we are still refelcting on the reaction to these ideas from a table of quite startled Democrats with whom one of us dined earlier in the week. The Democrats were absolutely convinced that the US was determined that it was time for a change and that no Rebublican had a chance. These people were so convinced we have been doing a reality check. This is still work in progress, but the attached poll result seems to show, nationwide, that it would be pretty much neck and neck between McCain and either Clinton or Obama.
