Media and business representatives were briefed yesterday by Phil Goff and the PM on the detail of the China FTA. Reaction of pretty much everyone was positive and the heat immediately came on Winston Peters, who as Foreign Minister, has yet to declare whether he supports the deal. Anyone doubting that this is about more than about trade should have visited Tiananmen Square yesterday. Every lamp post on the square and every flag poll on the Tiananmen Gate was apparently decorated with a Chinese and New Zealand flag.
Aside from NZ First, the heat should be coming on the "Green" and Maori Parties over their positions. The Maori Party in particular will be doing their electorate a great disservice if they vote against a deal that is going to benefit so many Iwi and Hapu so directly.
