This blog was dedicated to the monitoring of latest developments in Central, Regional and Local politics from its base in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. The blog was run by a team with unique insights into latest developments. The Hive was not politically aligned, but did support policy that was best for the growth of business and the economy. Given the obvious interest from our readership The Hive from time to time delved into the politics of other countries or regions.

Do Tax Cuts Have To Be Small?
Dr Cullen admits that his tax cuts won't be as large as those that National will be proposing. He falls back to the usual line that bigger cuts (it used to be - "any cuts") will be at the cost of social services. But will they? We don't see National proposing cuts to education, health, social development etc. What we do see is calls for waste in Government expenditure to be reduced and a stemming of the growth of Government agencies. These, as everyone in Wellington knows, are growing without control. Is this leading to improved social services? No.
